Plastics Engineering Laboratories is a group of mechanical, electrical, optical, and chemical engineers with over a century of experience in developing plastic products and helping establish them in the marketplace. During our 20-plus years in business, we've helped clients of all sizes develop a variety of products — from garbage bags and paint buckets to jet-engine o-rings and safety syringes; from fiber-optic connectors to sigmoidoscopes and endoscopes.

PELabs engineers utilize their knowledge of polymer behavior to determine what is important in a given situation. Plastics are unique: When tabulated in a manufacturer's data sheet, their physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical property values are just a snapshot of a spectrum of the material-property values at one set of testing conditions.

For example, Young's modulus (the "elastic" modulus) is a function of temperature, rate, and duration of loading. Young's modulus can also vary with a product's moisture content. Similarly, Izod impact strength depends on testing temperature, geometry of the notch in the specimen, thickness, and other variables.

Such phenomena can be treated in a common framework for analytical purposes. By applying our knowledge of and experience with that framework, and combining both traditional analytical tools and modern CAE software with laboratory testing, PELabs develops highly reliable products.
